Sir,
I am a resident of the above-mentioned address for the past one year, having relocated from Delhi. Since my relocation, I have been paying electricity bills regularly and on time. However, I wish to bring to your kind notice certain irregularities in billing that have caused me considerable hardship.
For the last few months, it has come to my knowledge that physical meter readings are not being taken on a regular basis. As I was not receiving any physical bills, I relied on the online portal and regularly paid the amounts displayed therein. To my surprise, during the past two months, the billed amount was abnormally low (for instance, the bill for the last month reflected only Rs. 439).
In order to ascertain the matter, I availed leave from my office and visited the Revenue Section of the Karaikal Electricity Department. The officials concerned informed me that the readings could not be recorded as the premises were allegedly locked. This statement is factually incorrect, as my family resides continuously at the premises even during my absence at office hours. This clearly establishes that the meter reader had not been visiting the premises to record the consumption.
Owing to this lapse, I have now been burdened with a penal charge of Rs. 15,387 (Acknowledgement No. RL 25580346304), which was imposed only after I personally submitted a photograph of the actual meter reading. This has adversely affected me as I am compelled to pay higher unit charges on account of accumulated consumption, which is solely attributable to negligence on the part of the concerned staff.
In light of the foregoing, I respectfully request that:
Necessary directions be issued to the concerned staff to ensure timely and regular recording of meter readings at my premises.
The undue penal burden imposed on me owing to departmental lapses may kindly be reviewed and suitable relief granted.
Steps may be taken to prevent recurrence of such lapses in future, in the interest of consumer service and fairness.
I shall remain obliged for your kind intervention in the matter.
Regards,
Vidyasagar P L
